Detox with tea? Believe it or not, this is a supermodel-approved approach to releasing toxins from the body.
Apart from that, teatoxes promise to boost energy, decrease bloating, and support weight loss efforts. With all those benefits mentioned, many are clamoring to try and find the best teatox there is.
Wait a minute, are you lost? Or have you not heard of teatoxes yet?
In this post, we will talk about what a teatox is, how to detox with tea, and all there is to know about the world of teatoxing. Let’s start brewing, er… discussing.
What Is Teatox?
As mentioned earlier, teatox or tea detox is performed to eliminate the built up toxins inside your body. As a result, you lose weight, get a glowing skin, and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
The best teatox is not your common combination of milk, sugar, and tea leaves. No, we are not talking about your favorite milk tea here.
Instead, the tea is made from infusing natural and organic herbs and spices that are recommended to address certain problems or conditions. Having said so, you cannot just detox with tea without your doctor’s advice and direction.
People all over the world are now discovering the benefits of drinking tea. For example, it was found that a cup of matcha tea contains antioxidants equivalent to over 130 cups of green tea.
Medical professionals are taking advantage of breakthroughs such as those to relieve different maladies. If detox with tea is something that you wish to try, you need to take note of the things that we will be sharing with you.
How Does Teatoxing Work?
Teas that are rich in antioxidants are good for the brain, bones, skin, and heart. Those teas also help you cope with stress, while keeping your weight in healthy levels.
Those who find it hard to consume 8 glasses per day will be delighted to know that detox teas can also be counted for daily water requirement.
Why? Detox teas are NOT your regular teas. They are rich in antioxidants that can help promote better health – both body and mind. The regular teas, on the other hand, are loaded with caffeine, cause dehydration, and are acidic.
When you consume the right amount and combination of teas, your skin will be rejuvenated. You will sleep better, and feel more energetic too, as the toxins are removed from your body.
Detox with tea is a two-step program. The tea supplies you with energy all throughout the day. Additionally, it speeds up your metabolism while suppressing your appetite.
At night, the tea does the cleansing and purifying. Your digestive tract is freed from toxins and other built up matters, therefore helping you lose weight in the process.
You think detox with tea is easy? Think again. All of your efforts will not be successful if you don’t pick the correct tea or drink the right amount. Otherwise, the tea will not work and you will suffer from varying side effects.
But if you got the right combination, your body can better absorb the nutrients from your food, your immune system will be strengthened, and your organs will properly function.
Please take note that there are teas that work better in the morning to start your day, while others help you relax and sleep so are more appropriate for nighttime consuming. You will learn about those later on.
Can a Detox With Tea Go Wrong?
I’m sorry, but the answer is yes. Prior to teatoxing, you need to do research, and ask your doctors and nutritionist especially if you are taking medication or suffering from a medical condition.
Herbal teas are not for everyone. For example, pregnant and breastfeeding women need to be extremely careful when choosing tea. Those who have liver problems, colitis (inflamed colon lining), persistent gut dilemmas, and those under 15 years old should refrain from teatoxing to avoid further damage.
Those who use contraceptive pills, or any other medication need to seek professional advice to know if detox with tea can cause complications with their treatment.
One thing worth noting is that the nighttime teatox involves senna leaf. This leaf can induce stomach cramps. You will need to reduce the steep time to a few seconds to avoid headache, diarrhea, lightheadedness, nausea, and intense stomach cramps.
But if the symptoms still persist, avoid detox with tea altogether and talk to your doctor right away.
What Are the Things to Consider?
You can only do the teatox up to four times a year and you must take a six-week break before starting another session. You can only detox with tea for up to 28 days.
If you have been sick recently, or have been taking medications as of late, delay the teatox and wait for a few weeks. Doing otherwise will only add to your body’s burden and issues.
You also need to keep in mind that detox with tea cannot and will not replace healthy eating habits. You should not skip meals, or stop exercising just because you think you have the best teatox there is.
Just carry on eating fruits and vegetables. Fuel your body with anything healthy, and do away with junk.
Tea Mixture
To detox with tea, you will need to combine fresh herbs and components such as green tea, peppermint, rose petals, and more to get your desired benefits. However, we strongly advise against combining more than one spice at a time.
Minimize use of lemongrass, basil, and ginger. Instead, go for local herbs that you can easily get and ditch the preserved ones. For best results, research to know which is the best teatox for your needs.
Drink about four cups of tea – one upon waking up, another in the middle of the morning, another during tea time, and last cup one hour before your dinner. Please make sure to follow your nutritionist’s advice about this or you will suffer from acidity and irritable bowels.
As said earlier, not all teas are created equal. There are those that will not suit your taste, but that’s okay. If you really don’t like how a particular tea tastes like, you can ask your nutritionist if you are allowed to add honey or lime for added flavor.
Again, please do not forget to confer with your doctor or nutritionist prior to adding any ingredients to avoid possible complications such as diabetes or irritable bowels.
What to Eat (and NOT Eat) When You Detox With Tea
For starters, fruits and vegetables will keep you nourished while keeping your blood glucose levels in check. Potatoes, in particular, will provide you with the needed carbohydrates to fuel your entire day.
Tofu will help you meet your daily protein requirement. Fish is a good source of vitamins and minerals so stock up on them. You can also pair your viands with brown rice to maintain your blood sugar levels.
Eating oats will keep you feeling full for longer. If you don’t want to keep on snacking, munch on beans and lentils, and unsalted nuts and seeds for the added energy.
Yogurt is a yummy snack that keeps your colon healthy. And don’t forget to drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated.
Please refrain from eating bacon, hamburgers, cheese, cream, butter, margarine, and anything that is too oily, fatty, and heavy on the stomach. All those will only stress your digestive system. There is more to this list.
Avoid pies, cakes, donuts, pastries, chocolates, candies, and soda. All of these have empty calories, but provide no nutrition at all.
No alcohol and tobacco too. Sorry, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you need to avoid them during your teatox.
Recommended Teas and Ingredients
For the morning tea, you can try green tea, nettle leaves, dandelion, Guarana seeds, grapefruit, strawberry, and pineapple. In the evening, senna leaves, ginger root, orange zest, peppermint, licorice is just some of the recommendations for the tea.
My Thoughts
If you are already fond of tea compared to drinking coffee, I suggest that you try the healthier alternative. You don’t need to detox with tea to drink a cup. Believe it or not, you can incorporate this in your daily life.
However, we strongly urge you to talk to your doctor or nutritionist about the ingredients you plan to include. Not all of them can do you good if taken on a daily basis.
Make sure that you use fresh ingredients as they have no preservatives. Brew only a few to ensure the freshness and quality of the tea.
If we’re being honest here, thinking about doing a lot of research just to make a tea is overwhelming. I mean, it is making me nervous and scared. Imagine having severe side effects such as getting intense stomach cramps and nausea if you don’t get the right ingredients or mix. Wrong teatox can be harmful.
When I think about it, I guess it is way easier if I just stick to the popular pre-made teatoxes such as Hello Slim because I badly want to avoid the side effects. Are you still interested to detox with tea?

Yikes, this might be a little hard for me. 4 cups a day? I’m not British! LOL. I don’t know if I could sustain that for a period of time that wold do me any good. I’m also trying to semi live a keto lifestyle and I see the foods don’t really fit in a Teatox lifestyle. I didn’t see it, but how long does a teatox take and how often is it recommended?
Sandy says
If you detox with Hello Slim, it’s only 2 teas a day, for 30 days. You can do it maximum 4 times a year, but you might not need that many. For many healthy people 1-2 times a year is enough. Thanks for the comment.

Wow, really perfect and valuable article. I am a big fan of green tea, but after this post, I might swipe to matcha tea. When I am seeing that the intakes of antioxidants are equivalent to 130 cups of green tea, there is definitely a point to switch. The next thing is that I am a coffee lover,( during the last years, I was maybe overtaking it slightly;-)) and as I heard matcha tea has as well a certain amount of caffeine in itself, is that right? In this case, I would solve two issues with one drink. In general, I think it is very important to detox or tea-tox our organism on a regular basis, as the pollution and environment are getting all, just not better. Would you suggest to make detox once in a while, if yes how many days/teas per day? Or rather make it as an everyday ritual? Thank you for your advice.
Sandy says
Yes, matcha has also caffeine, because matcha is green tea powder made from young tea leaves.
Tea detox is very complicated and might not be healthy if made on your own. For me it’s just too much headache to do the research and to prepare everything. If I want to go for teatox, then I use ready made detox teas like Hello Slim, which I reviewed here. I just follow the instructions from the manufacturer.
Thank you for the comment.

It is a great and nice feeling to know that someone will create a great website like this and also create a write up on an article like this. I had no idea that tea could be used as detoxifying agent and I’m glad vegetables will help during the process. Thank you very much

Hi! I have been drinking tea since I lived with my parents back in Italy. I’m already fond of tea, and prefer it above coffee. That’s something not many Italians can honestly say, LOL. So, I’ll stick with the healthier alternatives. And will also consult my doctor about those ingredients I will be including on a daily basis.
